One Goal campaign kicks off

Kuala Lumpur:  The AFC on Monday kicked off the ‘One Goal’ campaign along with partners World Vision, DSM, Global Alliance for Improving Nutrition and the Asian Football Development Project to ensure that children across Asia eat, live and play right.
Focused on providing nutrition for every child in Asia, by leveraging the power of and the passion for football in the region, the ‘One Goal’ campaign will seek to tackle the poor nutritional practices and access that have been holding back Asia and Asian football.

The ‘One Goal’ campaign kicked off during the run-up to the AFC Annual Awards celebration which will take place in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday night.

One Goal ambassadors, FC Seoul player and 2013 AFC Player of the Year nominee Hae Dae-sung (pictured, right) of Korea Republic and Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 and Miss Malaysia World 2007 Deborah Henry (left), signed a ball to mark the launch of the campaign.

AFC Director of Marketing and Social Responsibility Stuart Ramalingam, World Vision Malaysia CEO Liew Tong Ngan, DSM Nutritional Products Asia Pacific Communications Director Eric Drosin, Asian Football Development Project CEO Urs Zanitti, Global Alliance for Improving Nutrition Director of Singapore office Dr. Regina Moench-Pfanner and One Goal Marketing Director Tanya Pinto were also present during the launch.

“Awareness is the first step to action in this campaign and as we know football today has the power to change the lives of everyone whether in the slumps, cities, the privileged and the disadvantaged,” said Henry.

“Nutrition is a very important aspect in children’s lives. I will do everything I can as One Goal ambassador and I’m confident that One Goal will be a successful campaign.”

Hae said: “This is really a wonderful campaign and it will have a huge impact on society. As football players, I and my teammates will definitely support this campaign in any way we can.

“As a professional, I know how important nutrition is in our game and I will do my part to ensure the success of this campaign to improve children’s nutrition.”

Asia is home to close to 578 million of the 1 billion malnourished people around the world.

The campaign will seek to transform child nutrition in the Asian region by engaging players, fans and football lovers to become ambassadors for good nutritional practices and engage governments to invest more in helping children access nutritious foods so that they can grow up to be champions in whatever they do.
