Both sides are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements, with Arsenal in particular keen to add more depth to their back four, with Arsene Wenger lacking a true backup to Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
Despite being linked with several players in recent times, SportsDirect News understands that Martinez has become a top target for Wenger, having caught the eye in La Liga over the last year or so.
Liverpool have been linked with Martinez before, and considered signing him in the summer before switching their attention to Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori.
Still, with Martin Skrtel likely to leave the club in January, manager Brendan Rodgers remains keen on signing another player in that position, and will hope to compete with Arsenal for the signature of the 22-year-old Spanish international.
